Appointed to the Water Replenishment District Board of Directors in August of 2018 and elected to a four-year term in 2020. Vera Robles DeWitt currently serves as chairman of the Groundwater Quality Committee, member of External Affairs and Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Committees. She was unanimously elected President of the Board of Directors in 2020.
Director DeWitt has a long record of public service. In 1981, she became the first Latina elected to the Carson City Council. She was re-elected twice to four-year terms on the council, and in 1990 she was elected Carson Mayor by her council colleagues. Director DeWitt served on the Carson City Council until 1992.
For years, Director DeWitt has been involved in civic programs as the founding president of the Boys and Girls Club of Carson, Board Member of Dominguez Family Shelter and on the Executive Board of South County Labor, AFL-CIO as well as a member of Kiwanis International.
As a small business owner for over 45 years, she brings to the WRD Board of Directors years of experience in budgets and fiscal matters.
Living in Southern California makes us vulnerable to periods of drought, which inevitably result in water shortages and restrictions. These cyclical droughts allow us an opportunity to plan for the next time our precious water supply must be rationed.
There is one public water agency setting aside politics and making big strides to alleviate, and believe it or not eliminate, the impacts on Southern California of the next inevitable severe drought – the Water Replenishment District of So. CA (www.wrd.org). This public agency’s mission is to provide, protect, and preserve a safe and sustainable groundwater supply. Groundwater, our most precious local resource is too important for politics; we deserve to have at the helm only the best qualified and most experienced person managing our local groundwater supply.

FACT! Vera has championed programs that protect and clean our groundwater supply, including tackling the ubiquitous forever chemicals PFAS, PFOA, PFOS,
and BPA. During Vera’s tenure as Director at the Water Replenishment District of Southern California contaminated groundwater has been effectively extracted through various remediation programs, and groundwater polluters pursued in order to stop the spreading of pollution in our groundwater supply. Re-elect Vera, she is not afraid of big corporations and will not stop championing pollution remediation programs at the Water Replenishment District of Southern California!
FACT! Vera advocates for reducing the region’s dependence on expensive and unreliable imported water. Today, because of Vera’s advocacy Southern California is much less dependent on expensive and unreliable imported water through the tremendous successes at the Water Replenishment District of Southern California.
